High-power high-speed
switching: Receives fiber optic signals from the gate drive board,
achieving controllable turn-on and rapid turn-off; completes AC-DC-AC power
conversion, with the dual advantages of high current tolerance of thyristors and
high-speed turn-off of IGBTs, eliminating the need for an external RC buffer
circuit.
Bidirectional
energy flow: Built-in anti-parallel diodes allow reverse current freewheeling,
supporting four-quadrant operation; energy is fed back to the DC bus and the
grid during motor braking.
Fault
Short-Circuit Failure Mode: Press-fit devices tend towards a stable
short-circuit state upon damage, reducing the risk of explosion and arcing,
protecting the entire power unit, suitable for critical industrial equipment (ABB Group).

Low-Loss
Power Conversion: Low on-state voltage drop reduces overall heat generation,
adapting to high-power water-cooling systems and improving overall converter
efficiency.

Role in the ACS6000 Medium-Voltage Inverter System
The ACS6000 is
a medium-voltage high-power motor drive system. The modules are installed within
the phase modules of the ARU active rectifier unit and the INU inverter
unit.
ARU
Active Rectifier Side (Grid Side): Each phase arm uses this IGCT to convert the
grid medium-voltage AC power into DC bus voltage; it can control the grid-side
power factor and suppress harmonics; in motor feedback mode, it sends
regenerative energy back to the grid, achieving four-quadrant operation.

INU
Inverter Side (Motor Side): Following the PWM pulses of DTC (Direct Torque
Control), the IGCT (Inverter Gate Circuit) switches on and off at high speed,
converting DC to medium-voltage AC output with adjustable frequency and voltage,
driving high-power asynchronous/synchronous motors to achieve speed regulation
and torque control.
System-Level
Role: The core of power conversion for each phase of the entire inverter system,
determining the inverter's maximum output power and dynamic response capability;
working with the gate drive board to complete overcurrent and overvoltage
protection, and quickly blocking pulses in case of faults.
Typical
Applications of ACS6000: Mine hoists, rolling mill main drives, large water
pumps and fans, and ship main propulsion drives.

PCS6000 has

Wind Power Converter
Router-Side
Converter: The IGCT rectifies
the AC output from the wind turbine generator, controlling the generator
speed.
Grid-Side
Converter: Inverts the AC power to meet grid standards for grid connection;
supports active and reactive power regulation and low-voltage ride-through.
PCS6000-STATCOM
Reactive Power Compensation: The IGCT forms an H-bridge/multilevel power unit,
rapidly generating or absorbing reactive power; suppressing grid flicker and
three-phase imbalance, stabilizing bus voltage, and improving power quality.
