Principle (Brief)
The
IGCT is based on an improved GTO thyristor and employs Gate Forced Commutation
(GCT):
Turn-on:
Fiber optic signal triggers gate conduction;

Turn-off:
A large reverse current is drawn from the gate, forcing the anode current to
quickly commutate to the gate, achieving reliable turn-off;
The
RC version has a built-in reverse diode, capable of withstanding reverse
current, suitable for voltage source inverter (VSI) topologies.
